Stay focused, block distractions, and beat cell phone addiction with BlackOut.

Have you ever felt the need to take a break from your phone? Do you think you might be suffering from cell phone addiction or screen addiction? Have you been finding it challenging to stay focused lately, especially due to the influence of your phone on your sleep patterns or work? Perhaps giving up cold turkey seems daunting. BlackOut was conceived based on user feedback received while developing and maintaining Detox, another app aimed at aiding users with staying focused. The idea for BlackOut arose from users' desire to set specific timeframes during which they would be unable to use their smartphone. The app's concept is straightforward: set a start time, finish time, and days of the week when phone usage should be restricted. Once activated, BlackOut will deter you from using your phone until the designated time period concludes—a routine that repeats daily (or on selected days) until you deactivate it, akin to an alarm clock.

How To Use

  • Open the app and ensure you grant the necessary overlay permission.
  • Tap the floating plus icon.
  • Select a start time.
  • Select a finish time.
  • Choose the day(s) of the week for app operation (including every day).
  • Activate by toggling the switch in the list.
  • Remember to deactivate if you wish to discontinue the restrictions.

  • Register up to three different four-hour time frames for free.
  • An effective tool to combat phone addiction or improve sleep quality.
  • Enhances focus and productivity.
  • Prevents phone usage during specified periods.

Troubleshooting

  • Set times in 24-hour format for proper functionality (e.g., 11 PM as 23:00).
  • BlackOut may experience slight delays for battery preservation purposes; avoid setting short periods like 3 minutes.
  • If your phone has battery-saving features like STAMINA mode, disable them for BlackOut to work correctly.
  • If your device uses Doze mode, deactivate it for BlackOut functionality; access this setting through your device's settings application.
  • If your device employs a whitelist for protected apps (e.g., Huawei), ensure that BlackOut is added to this list.
